The Bemus Point-Stow Ferry returns for the summer season in May. Following a three-year restoration, the Ferry, which had been in continuous service since 1811, returned in 2021, and the cost to ride from Bemus Point to Stow or vice versa is a donation.
Take a journey through time - and across the narrows of Chautauqua Lake - on one of the few remaining cable ferries in the U.S. The Bemus-Point Stow Ferry can carry up to nine cars or 50 passengers, and measures 66 x 34 feet, featuring a metal barge covered by a wooden deck and a pilot house on each corner. Your ride across Chautauqua Lake takes approximately 10 minutes, with another 10 minutes to load and unload.
An all-volunteer organization now runs the Ferry, which is no longer the most efficient way across Chautauqua Lake since the construction of the Interstate 86 bridge, but it is perhaps the most memorable method of traveling from Bemus Point to Stow.
