Two flat-water trails, over 25 miles each with excellent opportunities for canoeing, several launch points, and lean-to shelters.
The Cassadaga Creek runs from the Cassadaga Lakes until it converges with Conewango Creek. The Conewango Creek flows in from neighboring Cattaraugus County into Kennedy and ultimately to Warren, Pennsylvania.
Both creeks have parking and launch points as part of the Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail, as well as lean-to campsites.
The Chadakoin River, Chautauqua Lake's outlet, journeys across Jamestown and Falconer, joining Cassadaga Creek at the community of Levant. The Cassadaga Creek then joins the Conewango Creek near Frewsburg, and the waterways are tributaries of the Allegheny River.
Anglers will find an abundant supply of brown trout in the Cassadaga, as well as northern pike, muskellunge, large and smallmouth bass. There are 5.4 miles of public fishing options along the creek, according to the DEC. Learn more.
According to the DEC, the Conewango Creek offers steep sides, a relatively narrow channel, and an average depth of 8 feet but with maximum depths reaching 32 feet. The muddy bottom creates opaque waters.
The DEC reports 55 fish species have been found in the creek, so don't leave the Conewango off your next fishing trip. Catch largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and muskellunge up to 50 inches in Conewango Creek. You'll even find an ample carp population.
