Join us on Wednesday, October 9th from 5-6 pm for the opening reception of “At Home in Nature,” the October gallery installation at Lakewood Memorial Library, which will showcase some of the amazing flora and fauna that is at home in Chautauqua County. The exhibit features works by photographers Twan Leenders (who is also our director of conservation), Jan Bowman, and Jeanne Wiebenga (who are also two of our board directors).

Each of the species highlighted in the exhibit has a story to tell. They are all biological indicators, species whose unique environmental requirements give us a glimpse of how our local nature is doing. We use this information to not only identify the ecologically most valuable pieces of land in the county but also to guide many of our management decisions and habitat restoration efforts.

Following the reception, the exhibit will remain open to the public at the Lakewood Memorial Library, located at 12 West Summit Street in Lakewood through October 30th. (Get directions and hours at https://www.lakewoodlibrary.org/)

The exhibit will end on Wednesday, October 30th with a closing lecture at the library from 5-6 pm. For those who may be interested, the framed prints will be for sale for $50 each (to be collected after the exhibit closes) with proceeds benefitting the Conservancy – and the cool creatures displayed in the images!

Don't miss this intriguing exhibit where you'll get a sense of how fortunate we are to live in such a rich and diverse part of the world!
