Wetland animals have many structures and behaviors to help them survive the cold, winter months. Some go dormant or hibernate and some migrate, leaving for warmer climates, while others have thick fur or find other ways to keep warm while remaining active throughout the winter. Plants are also finding ways to survive or protect their seeds through frozen water and cold temperatures.
Join ACNC to learn more about what the animals and plants in this area do to survive the cold temperatures and reduced food availability. After a short lesson, head outside to explore the wetlands, look for evidence of animals, and see what the living things found in or near the ponds are doing in the winter.
A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.
Special Information: This program takes place rain or shine, please dress for the weather.
